Outdoor play

We consider the outdoor play area to be another essential learning space.

Outdoor play provides rich opportunities for natural science, fantasy, elaborate play and enhancement of gross motor skills.

Opportunities for teachers to scaffold [extend] children’s play and promote their thinking are possible in the outdoor playground and when children are engaged in physical skill activities. (Cullen, 1993.)
